No, I’m not your every day reviewer – I don’t ever remember reviewing anything at all, so why start now? Bloggers are now obliged to disclose whether or not they receive any remuneration from vendors to mention, promote, or review their products. I find that many of the reviews I had trusted have been nothing more than paid commercials, so I decided that my unbiased opinion – an opinion that is nether requested for compensated – may be a little more useful to those looking for information.

Dawn Hand Renewal

Keep in mind that I’m frugal, I tend to look for the product that gives me the most bang for my buck. This time, the dishwashing liquid was purchased purely at the request of Ciel (age soon-to-be-9), who has never washed a dish in her life. “It looks cool!” was her rationale.

So, the Dawn Hand Renewal with Olay was purchased at a cost of 2.49 (reduced from 2.59 – what a bargain! NOT), and was tested this morning on the breakfast dishes – including the greasy griddle. The variety we chose has a “tropical shea butter scent”, and – predictably – shea butter is not listed in the ingredients. It just smells nice. Other varieties include “lavender”, “aloe vera”, and “pomegranate”. It does mention on the bottle that it is ultra concentrated, but aren’t they all? Maybe this one is more ultra concentrated than others because it felt like I was washing my dishes in hand soap!

The dishes came out clean, of course. There was no problem cleaning the grease off the (non-stick) griddle, and my hands feel soft. The label claims “improves the look and feel of hands in five uses”. I will compare the feel of my hands currently (an hour after washing the dishes) to the feel of having my hands in a bowl of dishwashing water to which baking soda has been added. Soft!

I’ll post a comment after I’ve used it 5 times to see if the claim on the label is true. In the meantime, try it! It smells nice, it does the job it’s supposed to do (but considering I just missed out on a deal for .41c dishwashing liquid last week, I may be just a little displeased that I’m out an extra $2!)

My MyTouch

My MyTouch <3

I am not a reviewer, nor do I play one on TV. I don’t seem to have the right turn of phrase to grab peoples attention and make them think that I know what I’m talking about.

I don’t have the writing style that would make you turn on a dime and say “I HAVE to get one of those!” or “I’m glad she pointed out the pitfalls, I’m not buying that product.” (sidenote: remember when “widget” was an interchangeable term you could use for anything? Like “doo-dad” or “dooverlacky”? And now there really are such things as widgets, it just doesn’t sound right to use it in such a hazy context any more!”

This post will probably be more opinion than review. Sometimes something happens, and you say “I really must tell my 14.5 blog readers about that, because it may be invaluable information for them!” – oh, when I say 14.5 blog readers, I’m probably inflating the numbers somewhat, it’s more like about 8. *grin* But, if one of you walks away after reading this and feels it was worth reading, then … this one’s for you, pal!

My phone is a T-Mobile MyTouch. Lovingly referred to by me, originally, as the “Whoopiphone” and then the “Oprahphone”, but now I like to refer to it as the “Wyclefphone” (because I love what Wyclef andYele are doing for the people of Haiti) – I also love my MyTouch. It just makes my life so much easier.

But, that’s another post … back to the point of THIS post. which is FreshFace for the MyTouch.

I wanted a good RSS reader, as I subscribe to a lot of RSS feeds, and I love nothing better than to spend my lunch break catching up with the likes of Seth Godin, The Pioneer Woman and Julie Prichard. I tried Newsrob and liked it, but it didn’t seem to sync the way it was supposed to. Articles I read in NewsRob still showed up in my google reader. I went searching for something that would sync, and tried greed. I liked it, but again, the sync didn’t work for me.

I read about FreshFace – it seemed like it could do lots of cool things, as well as being an RSS reader. Perfect! I considered installing it (it’s free on the droid market) and was careful to read lots of reviews. It seemed that there were many people griping about forced close and lag, but all of those comments seemed to come from people who had installed it on G1 phones, or other android phones. The clue, I read, was that it was specifically developed for the MyTouch 3G (my phone), so of course it was likely to cause problems when a user attempted to install it on a different phone!

scan to download FreshFace

I downloaded and installed FreshFace, and was surprised when I immediately began to experience some of those things that others were complaining about. “Force close” was a huge issue! Every time I tried to do something, the app wanted to force close. I had to be swift of finger and click the home button before the notification came up if I wanted to get to the “regular” home screen! You do, thank goodness, have the choice of completing the “home” action with either FreshFace, or the regular Home screen.

This was all happening last night, so I decided to sleep on it, hoping that my phone alarm was still operational and would get me up for work in the morning! It was, and it did (though I didn’t go to work – some kind of tummy bug, TMI, I know!). I always check the weather in the morning, so I pulled up the home screen … and waited … and waited … and waited. So, this is the infamous lag that people are referring to!

Something even more strange happened this morning, and I don’t know if it can be attributed to FreshFace or not. I was sitting at my desk typing, glanced down at my phone and it was showing the word “android”, which only appears at startup. My phone had rebooted itself. I have no idea if this happens regularly and I just didn’t see it because it happened at a time when I normally wouldn’t be looking at my phone?

I’ve uninstalled FreshFace. I may reinstall it later today, but until then, my phone will remain themeless, and I’ll just read the RSS feeds on my computer.
