I received an email this morning from alderman and friend, Karen Schmidt, which I hope she doesn’t mind me sharing. This is my part in trying to help a local business, and – more importantly – a local family, cope with life after the passing of a loved one. If you are in McLean County and in the market for office furniture, or know someone who is, please help support the Cruses.

And as they say in the classics … pass it on

Good morning – many of you will remember Tom Cruse, owner of Recycled Furniture in our warehouse district, who died very suddenly some weeks ago. The family has decided to close the business and has asked for help in getting to word out about the inventory sale. Please pass this along – I know Tom’s passing has been a very difficult loss for his family and his many friends, this is one way to help support them.

Thanks – Karen

Hello Friends and Neighbors!

First of all, thank you all for your support during this difficult time for our family. We are so blessed by your love, meals, prayers and kind words!

Secondly, as you may know the kids and I have been running our business since Tom’s death. After much prayer, we have decided to close Recycled Office Furniture. I am attaching the ad we are running. We have a low advertising budget so if it’s not too much of an imposition would you help us spread the word? Feel free to print the ad and post or forward on to other people. Thanks so much!

Starting February 1st we will be open every day from 9 to 5 (except Sunday, February 7th) until February 13th. Currently everything is 20% off. On February 5th – 25% off, February 6th thru 11th – 30% off, Feb 12th – 40% off, and Feb 13th – 50% off. If you know anyone who needs pallet racking, desks, chairs, files, tables, etc. please send them our way!

You are a blessing to us!

Nancy, Alex, Brandon, Kendra, Michaela, and Charles

There are many tools and apps I’ve tried when it comes to Twitter. Some are great and I’ve continued using them, some are great and I don’t have a need for them and some have just vaporised into the ether. I thought I’d take a stab at summarising some of them … possibly just so I can look back on this page one day and say “ah, THAT’s what it was called!” when I need to recall the name of some long-forgotten tools.

Twitoria is a handy, free little tool, basically for discovering who on you list is dead (to Twitter, anyway!). This one always turns up some surprises, because … I don’t know about you but it’s always the Twitterers who start off with a bang that seem to go out with a fizzle. And it seems to me that some of the people on my list who haven’t tweeted in the past couple of months are the ones who I thought would be going the strongest!

I can understand that Hot August Nights is not posting updates in December, but will.i.am – an avid, hardcore tweeter – hasn’t posted in over 9 days. And 9 days can be a lifetime in the online world! Where are you, will.i.am? We miss you!

Tweetbeep is awesome! AWESOME, I tellya! I learned of it through a smart cookie over at Big Duck, Farra Trompeter, while at a NeighborWorks Institute. Basically, you can set Tweetbeep up to alert you when someone tweets about any key word you choose! I always joke about the fact that one of my “beep” terms is “Neville House” (the name of our domestic violence shelter for victims). Rarely am I notified of any news of Neville House, but I ALWAYS know when Aaron Neville is playing the House of Blues! (yes, I do use quotation marks in my search!) Did I mention it’s free?

Twellow – the name just sounds wrong to me! Reminds me of Mellow Yellow (can you still buy that?) – but it’s another handy little tool, introduced to me by Gordon Mayer, from Community Media Workshop. It’s the yellow pages for Twitter, according to the website description, but my favorite thing about Twellow is the Twellowhood – you can see your very own part of the country, and who is on Twitter. Can you believe that there are only TEN more people on Twitter in Bloomington than there are in Normal? But drill a little deeper, examine the results and you’ll see that anyone who listed their city of origin as “Bloomington-Normal” is listed under Normal. The numbers are a little skewed. I’m just sayin’.

And it’s free.

Is Twitter Down? Are you seeing more than your fair share of fail whales? Are you eternally asking the question “Is it just me, or is Twitter down?” Just hit this one and you’ll know for sure! Click on the “No” … where does it take you? Ahh, that’s for me to know and for you to find out!

OK – I’m done for the day. It’s been a long week, I’m tired, and I need to get some little feet walking all over my back. Now there’s a thought!

I’ll update my fave twitter tools (twools?) as I remember them, or as I use them, or something like that!
